So I’m trying to get the energy together to read either No Spin Zone or Treason. In the process of reading the reviews on Audible.com, I ran accross this gem:
The beauty of here argument is that it is fact and common sense. While you may not agree with her conclusions, you must know the facts. How is McCarthy always blamed for Alger Hiss and Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, when he wasn’t even in office yet? What lives did he ruin? Was he forcing people to “name names,” or was he himself forced to do so? Were the Communists “guilty until proven innocent” as opposed to the “innocent until proven guilty?” And if so, is that wrong? Do we not do the same to rapist, terrorist, and molesters? At the very least, Coulter makes you question everything you know about Joseph McCarthy.
The emphasis is mine. I can’t believe any American could even write something like that… “is that wrong?” Of course it is you idiot.
The obnoxious thing is that many of the reviews of the book are of the same sort. “McCarthy was a good man, Communists were really everywhere, etc. etc. etc. The problem with me reading these type of politics disguised as pop-history is that I’ll probably spend many, many late hours researching counter-arguments to this book… too much work. But, I feel like I should read one of these if I’m going to read Lies by Al Franken (already ordered through Audible).
Ugh… such a yucky thought. I think I’m just going to go get my lunch.
