So I have begun toying with the idea of breaking down and perhaps purchasing a (cough, cough) cell phone. After all, Sujal suggests it about once a day. So I went into a few cell-service stores and I’ve looked online. Then I decided to do a bit of health risk research. I was thinking that this seems a bit like it might be the cigarette type-dealy thing, where everyone knows on some level that it can’t possibly be good for you, yet we just can’t PROVE it yet. So I searched, and while I have not found 2003 updates just yet (and when I typed in “cancer cell phones” into google the overwhelming amount of sites that came up were saying that cell phones have no link to cancer — yet mysteriously, those were all cell-phone sales type sites. it was hard to find third-party type info), I have found this site. The most recent I have found is from the National Cancer Institute. None of it makes me feel all that at ease about using a cell phone — in fact, I’m beginning to think I need to pitch my microwave oven. The NYC power outage makes me think of just how dependent we’ve become on all sorts of technologies. From my preparation of my Brit Lit course for this coming semester, I’m seeing that people seemed to live okay and to be pretty happy pre-modern day technology. Perhaps if I could go through some sort of time-warp, alas, that would probably cause cancer, too.

The funny thing is that they used a bunch of lines straight from Palin’s Couric interview.

Nobody got cancer when the life expectancy was 19 (35 for those who survived past age 5)
