Payal just forwarded me a NYTimes article about Trader Joes.. They’re getting popular.

Looks like a performance at NYU (where she was a student for a few years). She really can sing (though she has a few misses playing the piano). There’s talent there, covered these days in a blond wig/hairdo and heavy makeup. Do your best to ignore the goofy MC, if you can.

Yeah, TJ’s is now my biggest adjustment. I’m a vegetarian that doesn’t like to cook… I live off of their prepared and/or frozen foods. It’s going to be tough to figure out what to eat once I get to Hartford. The good thing, though, is that there is a new Trader Joe’s coming in next to Heidi (my gf). Unfortunately, it’s also near her in Northampton. I guess I’ll have to drive my groceries an hour when I go visit her.

Who owns Trader Joes? someone just told me that a Dutch company owned TJ’s and that there are many more under various names. He also said they are one of the largest food companies in the world!!!
Thanks for any info.

There are very few prices on display at the frozen food sections
at the Wayne NJ outlet. The staff keeps saying that it being
taken care of by management for weeks….Since the stock is ever
changing, it is a bother to keep taking the items up front to wait
to have the barcode read Others agree that it is easier to pass the
packages by. Can’t a scanner be in each store for the customer
to use…….they are available here at some food markets and
comply with the state law that all items for sale to the public
MUST be priced.

I agree about not being able to contact anyone. They should head into the Florida Market, really could use them in Delray Beach, Florida

I’m addicted to their chocolate chai by Traidwinds, now discontinued. I’d also like to contact them about this.

Hello everyone,
Does Trader Joe contract individual caterers for specialty foods? I am convinced that I can provide a few products that will satisfy Trader Joe’s high standards but I do not know whom I can contact. Any advise?
Thank you
Julia

none of us really have any connection to them beyond being fans.
Their web site has information on contacting them through their official channels, but I suspect going to a store may get you more appropriate information.

Orlando, Florida needs a Trader Joes; a Windermere location would do very well out here, also in Winter Park, Florida. Who do I contact to see about the potential of getting them out this way?! Anyone know?
November 23rd, 2004 at 10:57 AM
I’d give anything to have a TJ’s in Florida – Miami would be great, but I’d even drive to Orlando with a big cooler if there was one there. TJ’S is AWESOME!!!! Try the Pinjur they have – OMG, it’s so good – they had it with their ww pita and goat cheese – yum!

I am having a problem with items like the tuna burgers. They are to be cooked frozen, yet they have paper between each patty and you can’t get them apart. I don’t want to lose a finger trying to pry patties apart with a knife and I have taken to microwaving them. I doubt I will buy this again.

I see a lot of comment about “why aren’t you down here around us…meaning almost anywhere in Florida. We’ve shopped the Reston, Virginia store with our daughter who lives in Leesburg and loves the store…and why not? So…as others have wondered..and asked…are there any plans for expansion down this way? Venice, Sarasota area is exploding and it’s paradise. You would thrive down here…believe me. I’m 71 and a successful author but you might coax me out of semi-retirement. We have a laundry room currently full of Charles Shaw wines……very, very good….great prices. Come on down…please! Don Blair, NBC Radio Network, retired. I could give you tons of PR in the media.

Trader Joe’s has a lot of great products, but as an employee of the company I see all of the waste produced there first hand. The stores sell environmentally friendly foods and cleaning products but they don’t recycle. All they care about is money. Please pressure your local TJ’s to start recycling!

Please locate two or three Trader Joes in Boise, ID. This is a great town and very ready for you. Having moved from California, I miss Trader Joes most. It is the capitol city of Idaho and has university population plus lots of middle and higher income poulation.
January 10th, 2005 at 4:09 PM
Please locate a Trader Joe’s in Burlington, Vermont. We spend the summer there and I heard that you target college towns. The University of Vermont is there and it would be a great market for you. College students from Middlebury as well as many folks who spend the summers in the Adirondacks would love to get the same great food there that they source in NY and NJ and other points south in the winter.
Thanks!

I love the fact that you all love Trader Joes. We’re about to get one here in central CT. Thing is, this site has no connection to Trader Joes. I’m sending them an email now to let them know to look here for people’s comments, but I doubt they will.
Just being honest. I’ll update with a new URL if there is a place where you can write to them directly.
January 11th, 2005 at 2:29 AM
If you google for “Trader Joes contact us,” the number one link is Fatmixx. “Trader Joes” and “Trader Joes contact,” link to Trader Joe’s.

To Don Blair and others who want TJ’s in Florida–I commute back and forth between Boston and Sarasota, and am starting to work on getting them into our area–after all, a Whole Foods just opened here last month, and the main comments are “great food, outrageous prices”! Sounds like perfect territory for TJ! Please get in touch and perhaps we can work together.

Trader Joe rocks! The guy who started it sold it to the same German brothers that own Aldi. He is now on the board of Cost Plus – another rockin store. They removed email because they would have had to add employees to handle the volume of email and they are $$$ oriented- they have 800 numbers to each store to answer questions. Now if they will only move into upstate New York…
January 28th, 2005 at 11:20 PM
Joe Coulombe – the founder of trader joes has a passion for wine…they now have some good wine at Cost Plus ! but he doesn’t own trader joes anymore so don’t bug him about opening new stores.
He has a web site with his findings, travels and comments at http://www.winejoe.com . Cool maverick dude

As a Trader Joe’s Captain with 20 years of employment with this awesome company, reading all of these comments leaves me (and I’m sure many other employees) with a very proud feeling of accomplishment. We strive every day to make every person feel important when they come into our stores. Thank you for your loyalty and devotion to us. Know that we strive every day to show the same to you.

I used to go nuts for this store, too, but my experience with them in the past 12 months has been anything but pleasurable. They keep discontinuing products that are high quality and introduce their own branded substitutes. The most horrific thus far has been the discontinuation of the Mario Batali Pasta Sauces. After that, they lost my loyalty. I’m going to Whole Foods/Wild Oats, where even though they’re more expensive, you get certainty.

Moving to the Oregon Coast – Great place for a Traders – My Parrot misses the Shelled Unsalted Unroasted Pistachios.

This site shows the horrible downside to dealing with the public: we are a miserable, complaining lot, eager to find fault with a really great, innovative retailer with almost no competition for failing to meet each of our petty, individual needs each and every time we deign to grace them with our presence. If you love them, shop there. If you can’t stand them, don’t.

I am a big fan of Trader Joe’s and wish they would open one closer to me (I currently travel 45 minutes to go). I have written them about the subject and received a personal phone call within a week – very good customer service, if you ask me.

I have been shopping at Trader Joes since 1968 (their second store on Foothill Blvd in La Crescenta, CA). I lived in Bend, OR for 17 years and went through the Joe’s withdrawals so I know what you are going through and also longed for them to open a store there. I am back in an area that has a Joe’s and would be happy to mail order goodies to anyone, anywhere. Just go on their site and check out the new Fearless Flyer in addition to your old favorites. I charge $7.50 per trip to TJ’s and .30 cents per item to cover handling (packing)and PayPal charges, plus shipping costs to your zip code. Credit card payment is handled through PayPal. Email me for further information if you are interested at Joestogos@netscape.net

Just so you dedicated fans of TJs understand… Trader Joe’s is privately owned ( no investors ) and a very skillfully crafted business. They don’t take loans to open new stores. Each new store is built only when the money is available and the store locations are chosen based on likelyhood of neighborhood success and low real estate prices. In addition, what makes TJs so successful is the full time personel that carry on it’s standards, this takes training and time. If stores were opened faster than quality full-timers could be trained, the service would be lacking ( as is evident in some east coast stores ). Just be patient, many new stores open each year. [By the way Char, a TJ's is opening in the twin cities next year, but you didn't hear it from me]

Yeah, Trader Joes food IS great but their web site is awful!
No customer support, no faces behind the company, no corporate address. You have to WRITE A LETTER or spend hours on the phone tracking people down! Just not acceptable and very frustrating.
Feels like a disorganized cooperative rather than a company!
