Lessig has a great post about how the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen highlights problems with Disney’s attitude concerning public domain and copyright law. This is Disney’s central blindness… the inability to see how being part of a greater network of creativity is more important than being the central arbiter of it.
While I’ve been working today on my JDBC to XML converter, I’ve been listening to the soundtrack to Rent, one of the Animaniacs CD, and a couple of other songs. I couldn’t help but notice that many of the songs on these various CDs draw from classical music that is in the public domain.
There was another article a few days ago that was highlighted on SlashDot concerning the weakening of patent laws. Even if you’re not usually interested in these things, you should read both articles (Josh, they even mention comics in one!). Here are both links again:
