So, after a cross-country hunt for one of these, I finally acquired one on Sunday at the Best Buy at Cambridgeside (FWIW, the KB there also had several in stock). I’m talking about a GameBoy Advance SP. I’ve been drooling over this since I saw a Slashdot article and read the discussion that followed about the pros and cons of this machine. I’m really surprised at how fluid the graphics are, and really love the small form factor (I brought it into work today in my breast pocket on my shirt).
So far, I’ve bought Pac-Man Collection, which has the original arcade version of Pac-Man :), and Metroid Fusion. I played Metroid a bit last night and so far it’s been fun. The graphics are pretty nice cosidering the console it’s running on. And having the built-in rechargeable battery is pretty nice too.
I also ended up replacing my wireless hub and my router (both Linksys devices). The damn WAP11 wasn’t easily manageable from my Powerbook or my Linux box. I also (stupidly) forgot my passwords to the network and the SNMP console, so I couldn’t reset it yesterday. That drove me nuts, so I decided to go get a router that explicitly supported the Mac. I ended up with a D-Link 802.11b/g router which has been decent so far. The odd thing is that it doesn’t seem to support nslookup of all things… dig works fine, and my apps run, but it’s not explicitly sending DNS server address (so it seems) to my Mac, at least. I’ll sort that out eventually.
Anyone need an old (40-bit only) WAP-11 or Linksys 4 port switch/router?
