OK, obvious trend number 2 to get this category started is the ubiquitous iPod. Seriously (and I’m not just talking about here at WWDC), I keep seeing iPod headphones EVERYWHERE. I’m not kidding. I take the E line then the Red Line to work every morning in Boston, and there hasn’t been a day in the last few months where I haven’t seen at least one other person carrying an iPod on their person. And, this doesn’t include the people like me who keep the iPod in a pocket and have switched to other, generic headphones… they’re not obviously iPod users since I don’t see the white headphones.

Apple announced at WWDC, that they were about to sell their 1 millionth iPod. Considering how many I see each day, I can believe it. I can’t believe it isn’t more. Also, just think about that for one minute… just based on the typical cheapest price for an iPod, about $299, Apple has grossed about $300 million over the past 2 years on this product alone. That’s just crazy.
