As much as I applaud a lot of what NOW does for woman and promoting equality, I believe that what Annika Sorenstam is doing for women in golf is far more effective (and much less negative publicity). Kudos for her to facing this challenge, and dealing with the pressure that is on her right now. I am sure a lot of people are hoping this opens the door for more women, and a lot are hoping that this will not.
Personally I am not sure I see the physical (height, weight, strength) arguments that people pose when discouraging coed sports such as football. Don’t get me wrong, I think golf is a game that requires skill and strength, but it does not have the barriers such as guys wanting to avoid tackling girls etc. SO, I hope that this action allows for more women to join this event, and increase the challange/excitement for everyone, male and female.

I think you meant the National Council of Women’s Organizations (http://womensorganizations.org/, not NOW. Although, NOW does do good things, too.

I completely agree. Annika’s ability to play with the men’s tour was much more impressive than just about anyone could have guessed.
Now that I’ve said that though, unfortunately, afterwards, she announced that she wouldn’t be playing in anymore men’s tournaments which is sad. She was able to beat no fewer than 11 men, and if her putting was a bit more sure, she might have beaten even more.
It was a wonderful sight to see, and I’m happy she did it. Hopefully we’ll see more like it too.
