I’m beginning to wonder if the CNN editors have become lazy… their poll questions have become so inane that it’s painful to look at them, let alone vote. Some examples:
The article on the new twenty dollar bill had a poll question, “Is the government’s new design for the $20 bill a good idea?” A good idea? That’s insightful questioning.
CNN’s front page was running a poll today that asked, “Will an investigation show al Qaeda was behind the terror attack in Saudi Arabia?” Unless this is a clever test of readers’ cynicism, what’s the value of this question? Does one vote yes or no based on, well, no actual information? They’re essentially asking us to predict the future, which ought to be as easy as it is to predict the next roll in craps.
They used to be entertaining and good barometers of the emotional state of people… these recent questions are more just, “hey, we have this poll box on our front page… what do we put in it?”
