I was sent this really interesting link that is a “The Onion” like satire on the “running commentary” versions of movies that you get on DVDs now. The premise behind this is Howard Zinn (from renound Peoples History of the United States, for those history buffs) and Chomsky watch the movie and comment on the meaning behind it. I have not read it all, but this is a snippit I found rather amusing:

Chomsky: But without the pipe-weed, Middle Earth would fall apart. Saruman is trying to break up Gandalf’s pipe-weed ring. He’s trying to divert it.

Zinn: Well, you know, it would be manifestly difficult to believe in magic rings unless everyone was high on pipe-weed. So it is in Gandalf’s interest to keep Middle Earth hooked.
