They’re not backing down (much) it seems. They are now doing interviews and a cover of Entertainment Weekly defending their right to speak their mind and explaining their position. I don’t like the Dixie Chicks much (though I have seen them live once), but I’m really impressed with how they’ve handled this. The uproar was crazy inside their fan base.

Finally, after way too freaking long, Buraka Som Sistema has released their latest album, Black Diamond. The song above, Sound of Kuduro is by far the best on the album, but there are some other nice gems on here. MIA is featured on several tracks, and the rhythm is just addicting. I cannot sit still when this is on.

I really dislike their music (sorry!) but I do admire their stance!

I will also have to admit a dislike for the Dixie Chicks music. I was never much of a country music person to be honest. I was listening to this show on NPR talking about the origins of country music, and how it is derived from the German Yodling (sp?) style. This explains a lot…..:)

Just for the record, I’m not a dixie chicks fan… I only saw them live because they were at Lillith Fair. The only reason I was there was to chaperone my sisters who really wanted to go.
I’m impressed that they made the statement they did and have subsequently stood by it. I do find some of the excerpts I saw of the interview they did with Diane Sawyer a bit disturbing, but hey… free speech and all that.

Admit it!!! You love the Dixie Chicks! I don’t remember them being at the Lillith Fair though.

They were there… you just were too drunk to remember.
(no, she really wasn’t drunk, but don’t tell her that!)

No, I blocked it out because I found having to listen to the Dixie Chicks way too tramatizing to deal with. You were the drunk one.
