Ok, so I am here supposedly testing out the search part of our new site here at work, but instead I am really reading the content that is on the site. In doing a search for the word “Freeman” (one of my preferred searches for obvious reasons) I came across this guy Freeman Dyson. Freeman is a professor of physics at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princton. It is here that I found this quote from an article written about him that I just had to share:
Our conversation was wide-ranging and deep…Toward the end of our meeting he touched on one of his favorite topics: the future of space. He witnessed a demonstration two years ago that he likened to the Wright Brothers proving that flight was possible in 1903. This breakthrough, using a toy spaceship, demonstrated that space travel via powerful ground-based lasers could happen. The laser beam would shoot up through the atmosphere and spaceships would travel up the beam by redirecting the energy back behind them. With time, Dyson speculated, an entire industry might be built.
Travel via freakin’ laser beams! How neat is that?
