Sadly, Fred Rogers, aka Mr. Rogers passed away last night in his home in Pittsburgh. There is a very nice write up in the boston globe about him. I loved many kids shows growing up , including The Great Space Coaster, Electric Company, and 3,2,1 Contact, however I also really loved Mr. Rogers. I guess, for me, there really was something to be said for some man who would look into the camera as if talking to me, and say “you are special, there is no one else like you in the entire world.” I know, very cheesy, something people mock as adults (ie saturday night live etc). However, as a child, I felt this was an outstanding revelation for me, that someone out there loved me, even if it was just a guy in a TV show.

Love the bass line, and really love that the gunshots were taken out of the track. Really never liked the gunshots in the album version anyway.

I had no idea you appreciated, and benefitted from the show that much. What you describe was of course the underlying purpose for the show, and apparently it came through for many, many people. And it was quite single-minded in pursuit of that goal: unlike the much flashier Electric Company, there was little there for adult viewers. “Cheesy”? By no means.
