What's Next cover photo
So after my current project was “mothballed” I have been now recently placed on re-designing the web site for the company GBN (yet another Monitor group company). It turns out that this company is quite an interesting company. Bascially it is just a bunch of really smart people that think about stuff. One of the recent publications the put out was this book titled What’s Next. This book discusses pretty much what it advertises, what is next in the world. In reading the intro (which you can read for free here), I came across an interesting view on the future of globalization.

“…Hillis takes the controversial view that the world is inevitably moving towards one global culture because in the end people share many of the same values and desires. He thinks we’re in the midst of a struggle between the “globalists” and the “tribalists,” who rightly fear that their cultures will dissipate”

Makes you wonder if it is such a terrible thing to lose the cuture you grow up in, and become absorbed into the world of chains and starbucks on every corner. Not sure where I stand on this to be honest. Should all cultures become one? Should we drop the different languages for a global standard?
