I just read a depressing article about the destruction of the environment in Nigeria. Read all about it here.
This complete disregard over the obvious destruction of wildlife and land is outrageous. People’s selfish love of money at the cost of anything, despite huge warning signs, makes me sick. Everyone seems to go with the “not within my lifetime” additude. What will it take for us to stop destroying everything for profit?
This leads to another issue though. Who’s place is it to moderate these companies, and force them to clean up their act? We can use the “pollution points” system for the world, but who is going to force the countries who have bigger issues then just the environment to feel like they should spend effort on this problem. Plus, the US seems to do everything in is power to encourage the “I don’t care” attitude by buying pollution points from other countries and walking away from meetings when we don’t get our way.
