It’s funny, but I find a lot of my new music from TV commercials. Unfortunately, it takes some investigating to figure out who wrote what music because the music isn’t always publicized. Some companies, like VW, have a place on their web site dedicated to this type of info. Others, like Mitsubishi don’t mention their commercials at all. Of course, VW has already released a compilation CD of some of their commercial music. So, they might be the exception rather than a norm.
I’ve found some good resources on matching music to commercials, though. Here they are:
- Clipland
- Commercial Breaks and Beats: UK Television Advert Music Database
As a result, I’ve found out that the cool VW commercial they’re showing on the Loews commercial reel has music by ELO called Mr. Blue Sky.
Now, who owns an ELO CD anymore?
There are some cool finds buried in there, and it’s a lot of fun to figure this stuff out.
On another note, I’ve noticed that I find “new” music from the companies focused on younger consumers. Like VW, or the Mitsubishi Montero commercial (which turned me on to telepopmusik). On the other hand, companies like Lexus (which used a Chemical Brothers track on one of their recent commercials) tend to focus on established artists, even if it’s electronica or some alternative style. I realize this is probably a function of their advertising agency and probably by design, anyway, but I just thought it was interesting.
Update: Feel free to ask questions in the comments below. Regular readers are happy to answer, as am I.

Does anyone know what song is being played in that one 2006 Lexus IS 430 commercial? I have been trying to look for it everywhere since forever. It’s the one where there’s no talking in the beginning and there’s some really nice yet haunting music being played while the car’s on the road.

Hey Delta Faucet Commercial fans!! I contacted Mr. Nicholas Lens (or at least his company) via his website and sent this:
Mr. Lens
I understand that you are the master behind the beautiful music in the Delta Victorian Faucet commercial. Everyone I know has fallen in love with that song. Is there anyway to purchase a copy of that piece?
Thank you so much for you time.
and his reply:
Dear Holly,
thank you 4 your kind mail < the Victorian Delta Faucet-tune has not been commercially distributed except for the synchronisation with this add < however, there are some many demands that I might let ferment the idea of arranging it to a longer version <
Best wishes and best of luck

I’m also looking for the LG Steam Washer/Dryer music. If anybody knows anything I’d appreciate it VERY MUCH!!!
October 8th, 2006 at 3:24 AM
The music from the LG Steam Washer/Dryer music is by a swedish musician named Jens Lekman. He said he only made the music for the commercial but there is an original song with the word Midsummer night or something like that in the title. Go to his site.
http://www.jenslekman.com/records/smalltalk.htm
October 8th, 2006 at 3:27 AM
Ignore the Midsummer night thing. The song is “Another Sweet Summer’s Night on Hammer Hill”

Hiyaa
I’m looking for the music from the newest Olay Ribbons body wash commercial. I think James might be the only other person here looking for it. It’s electronic and there are no lyrics so I could use some help. I’ll keep looking but if anyone finds it pleeeeease pleeeease don’t hesitate to drop me a message.

Hi Sim! Thanks so much! I found the song you were talking about by Jens Lekman. It’s actually A Sweet Summer’s Night on Hammer Hill (from the album Oh You’re So Silent Jens). There’s another one that is “Another Sweet Summer’s Night….” but it’s different–more of a ballad. But anyway, that’s the one. Unfortunately, it’s not as good as the LG Steamer version because of the terrible singing. If you listen to it you’ll see what I mean. But you have brought my weeks of searching to a happy conclusion. Thanks again. I really appreciated your response.

does anyone now the artist name or song title of the song used in the new Kellogs rice krispy commercials? the one where the mom and kid are listening to the cereal snap crackle and pop? same song used the the kellogs commercial where the mom and daughters are making rice krispy treats. i think the same song was used in 50 First Dates.
