It’s funny, but I find a lot of my new music from TV commercials. Unfortunately, it takes some investigating to figure out who wrote what music because the music isn’t always publicized. Some companies, like VW, have a place on their web site dedicated to this type of info. Others, like Mitsubishi don’t mention their commercials at all. Of course, VW has already released a compilation CD of some of their commercial music. So, they might be the exception rather than a norm.
I’ve found some good resources on matching music to commercials, though. Here they are:
- Clipland
- Commercial Breaks and Beats: UK Television Advert Music Database
As a result, I’ve found out that the cool VW commercial they’re showing on the Loews commercial reel has music by ELO called Mr. Blue Sky.
Now, who owns an ELO CD anymore?
There are some cool finds buried in there, and it’s a lot of fun to figure this stuff out.
On another note, I’ve noticed that I find “new” music from the companies focused on younger consumers. Like VW, or the Mitsubishi Montero commercial (which turned me on to telepopmusik). On the other hand, companies like Lexus (which used a Chemical Brothers track on one of their recent commercials) tend to focus on established artists, even if it’s electronica or some alternative style. I realize this is probably a function of their advertising agency and probably by design, anyway, but I just thought it was interesting.
Update: Feel free to ask questions in the comments below. Regular readers are happy to answer, as am I.

There was a song ages ago, i have no idea who its by or what it’s called.. The video is of the artist (female) singing into a microphone, with red curly hair, wearing blue.. It’s been a backing track for some of the MTV adverts, the beat is really simple.. Grr it’s a longshot but i wanted to know if anyone knows what it is..
Thanks

September 3rd, 2006 at 10:46 PM
The songs on the new Verizon commercial featuring the Chocolate phone: Someone said that there is a website for that phone and it has the names of the songs that were on the commercials. There are like 3 different commercials out now. I already know the Goldfrapp song, but does anyone know the names of the other 2 songs?
September 4th, 2006 at 1:01 PM
to pooh (102):
If the song you heard went “I need oh la la la love,” then it is “Ooh la la” by Goldfrapp. I’d get “Strict Machine” while you’re at it.
September 4th, 2006 at 1:06 PM
I’m looking for the song used in the T-mobile commercial for the c-300 (I think that’s the name of the phone anyway).
It shows the phone next to small things (like an egg, keys, dominos, etc.) to show it’s small size. I wasn’t able to catch any lyrics, but I like the tune.
September 4th, 2006 at 8:35 PM

September 7th, 2006 at 11:14 AM
I am THRILLED to see a site such as this with peopole in search of music played during commercials! I am looking for the Moen music as well, and saw the thread of inquiries. The only difference between my inquiry and the previous onese, is that I am looking for the song in the commercial that is pre- I-Cube, “Adore”. The song is played at the end of the commercial, just like the I-Cube song, but it is more , I don’t know, space-age-esque? I am not sure how to describe it. Its more like a synthesizer, than instrumental, like the piano and percussions used in “Adore”. Does anyone know the song/composer? I am not even sure what category it is classified as. I would L O V E to find this track.
THANK YOU!!!

Has anyone seen the commercial for Olay Ribbons Body Wash. The song in the commercial is really awesome. If anyone knows the name, it would be a great help. Thanks!
September 7th, 2006 at 10:42 PM
I don’t think it is julian velard that is the lee jean commercial. It sounds like a gilr singing but if it is him please does anyone know where i can find this song!!!!!!
September 8th, 2006 at 2:06 AM
I don’t think that it is either Julian Velard or Stevie Wonder in the Lee Jeans commercial. People say its Julian Velard b/c on his blog http://www.julianvelard.com/blog/blogPop.php on Apr 27 2006, he mentions cutting a track for Lee Jeans for the Sir Duke ad but he’s not sure if it will be used. I went to his site julianvelard.com and he totally does not sound like a girl. Same goes for Stevie Wonder.
I have heard that it is by someone named Kirsten Pierce. Her website kirstenprice.com has some songs but not this particular one. Possibly, she could be the girl but I have not found this song anywhere.
Another source tells me that this song is by the elements. Not sure if it is “The Elements” which is a hip-hop group (unlikely). Either way, I haven’t been able to find the song.
As you can see, I am growing really obsessed with finding the song and the artist. And I think some other people are too. So I plead for any help. If you know, please tell us! I would be eternally thankful.
